Abstract	The basics of structure-property-processing relationships in magnetic materials are outlined. It is shown that both the microstructure and the magnetic domain structure have to be understood to reveal details of the reversal mechanisms. This enhanced understanding will enable tailoring of the magnetic properties. © 1989.
