Abstract

This report quantifies the effectiveness of "sheltering in place" in a commercial building in the event of an outdoor radiological release. The indoor exposure to airborne particles is calculated by solving the mass balance equation that accounts for the loss of particles due to deposition, filtration and exhaust. Quantitative estimates of shelter-in-place effectiveness are provided for typical commercial buildings.
