The first in a series of regional trainings for public utility commissions on distribution systems and planning was held on Sept. 27-29, 2017, for the New England Conference of Public Utility Commissioners. Berkeley Lab is leading the training courses in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners.

The training is part of a Grid Modernization Lab Consortium project on distribution system decision support tools. Besides providing training for utility regulators, the project is identifying strategies for advanced electric distribution planning methods and tools, with a focus on emerging grid modernization technologies and deployment of distributed energy resources. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability and Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy fund the project.
